Today Ashish Dubey, assistant supply officer of the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Madhya Pradesh, told Outlook that procurement of wheat on MSP has been postponed for the time being. He told that the lockdown is going on across the country due to the corona virus and if the market opens, crowds will be gathered. He told that the purchase will not start till April 14, after which the situation will be reviewed. He told that a new date has not been announced for the purchase.
Today Board of Trade of Rajasthan has written a letter to the state government that the procurement of wheat should not be started on the support price, because if the purchase is initiated, there will be a crowd of officials in the mandi along with farmers, pulldars and truck drivers. Which will end the lockdown. Due to the lockdown, the mandis of Gujarat are also closed and there is no arrival of wheat in the mandis there.
Today Farmers forced to sell wheat below support price
Today owner of a roller floor millers located in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, on the condition of anonymity, said that wheat harvesting and threshing is in full swing in the state, while mandis are closed. Hence, farmers are forced to sell wheat at a price of Rs 1,600 to 1,800 per quintal to middlemen. He informed that roller floor mills are also able to use only 50 per cent capacity, as there are problems of labor along with transportation. The central government has fixed the MSP of wheat at Rs 1,925 per quintal for the current Rabi marketing season 2020-21.

According to a senior Food Corporation of India (FCI) official, 341.32 lakh tonnes of wheat was procured during the Rabi marketing season 2019-20. The record yield of wheat in the current rabi is estimated at 106.2 million tonnes. Therefore, it is estimated to be more than 350 lakh tonnes in procurement.
